ADD – ADHD: Following The Rules Can Be Hard
In my last post, I wrote about following the rules. I asserted that, as long as you are being intentional and aware of the consequences, you should make the choices that are best for you. Sometimes, like this morning, I don’t follow the rules and I wish I had. Sometimes, as is the case with many ADDers, I just don’t pay attention. So, I thought about these cases.
This morning I was trying to finish up my taxes, which I thought would not be that hard. After all, my accountant had clearly listed the instructions and, even put a sticky, “Sign Here,” where I was supposed to sign. In my usual fashion, I skimmed the instructions. I am sure that skimming is not recommended when it come to the IRS. I hear that they are very particular about following rules.
I had sealed the envelope to be sent to the IRS, and then noticed that I was supposed to write information on the check that I enclosed. So, there I sat thinking about what to do. My conundrum was exacerbated by the fact that I had already put a stamp on the envelope.
- One option was to send the envelope sans the info on the check.
- Another option was to try to open the envelope, write the info on the check and seal it back together.
- The last option was to open the envelope, and run the chance of ruining it and have to put another stamp on the envelope.
I laughed that I put so much thought into this.
I also thought about how much easier it could have been, if I would have followed the directions, one at a time.
Then I remembered that I don’t follow directions well.
I was able to open the envelope, put the information on the check and seal it back up with tape. It probable was not worth all that thought for a .42¢ stamp.
Oh, well, it’s in the mail and I do not have to worry about taxes until next year. I might just follow the directions from the accountant next year… or not.
