Diet and ADD: How Can Eating Carbs Help?

While my expertise is in ADD, not in the complexities of nutrition or the chemistry of food, I have learned a fair amount about the effects of eating specific types of food on ADD symptoms. While it may appear that I am equivocating, it is important to note that, while supported by some research, most of what is known about ADD and diet is anecdotal. Therefore, it is important that you practice due diligence in figuring out the right diet for yourself. You may need to experiment before finding the right balance. If you are unsure about the right diet, engage the support of a nutritionist. A  nutritionist can help you distill the…

ADD – ADHD: Who Can Help Me?

A question I am asked all of the time is: Who do I go to for help? Knowing which professional to go to for help is critical in receiving the correct kind of assistance for diagnosis or treatment. Yet, it can be confusing, as there are so many different resources. The first step is knowing what kind of help you are seeking. Below is a brief explanation of the types of professionals who can provide the help that adults with ADD commonly seek from a professional.   EVALUATION First, I strongly caution against seeing your family doctor for advice or evaluation for any suspected mental health issue, as they typically lack the needed specialized knowledge. ADD and Nutrition: Can You Get To The Finish Line?

When you do not eat properly you lose focus and find it hard to attend. Sounds familiar? ADD – ADHD: Goals and Medication

When you have identified a goal that is important to you, you may find that you do not practice good self-care, even though you know that doing so will allow you to be more effective and efficient in working toward your goal. There are many reasons related to your ADHD that may make it challenging to plan for and follow through on taking care of yourself. It may be helpful to view the practice of self care as being part of your goal, rather than separate from it. One way to do this is to integrate self care, like taking the correct medication, into your plans for reaching your goal by making it one of the performance goals you set to reach your end goal….

Who Is In Your Lineup Today?

Last week, I suggested that asking for assistance will help you to move more efficiently toward your goals. As promised, this week I am highlighting what I consider to be often undervalued forms of help. Some of my suggestions may end up surprising you! The type of support you seek, of course, will be dependent on what you need. However, regardless of the type of help you are looking for, the objectives are the same; without a doubt, you want to receive support, motivation and constructive feedback. As you consider the type of help you might find useful, think also about who you might ask to be on your team. Of course, you only want to ask those people with whom you want to work….
